Books and Friends Should Be Few But Good. :
Friends are said to influence the character of a person. Similarly books too can affect the personality of an individual to a great extent. One is free to choose whatever books and friends he wants. There are good people and bad people. So one must take care to associate with good people if his character is to be refined. Likewise good books can instill goodness into a person while bad ones can spoil his character. In a way, books act as friends and friends are often as useful as books. If a person tries to read a lot of books without selecting them he will not be able to grasp anything worthwhile from them as he is liable to get confused. In the case of fiends, if he tries to entertain a large number of friends, he will not be able to form true and firm friendship with any of them. There need not be a large number of friendships with any of them. There need not be large number of friends for a person to enjoy the fruits of friendship. Too many books also might not help him to learn anything from them. What matters is the quality. So good care must be taken to select books that have quality. Likewise good friends should be selected on the basis of character. Even though they are few in number, they should be of good quality and character.

«Books and friends should be few but good», says an English proverb. «Except a living man there is nothing more wonderful than a book! The book is certainly one of the greatest inventions of man. It is a friend and a teacher. We learn many things by reading books. Books teach people to live. The book is a faithful friend. They form our values and our characters. It gives us an opportunity to imagine the future, to look into the past. One can learn a lot by reading books.
There are a lot of libraries in our country, where we can choose any book we need. Everyone has the right to use public libraries. The librarian is always ready to help you to find a book on any subject.
Talks, exhibitions and other events take place in libraries. Except reading special and scientific literature it is a great pleasure to read belles-lettres.
Different people like to read different kinds of it. It depends on one’s taste and character. Some people prefer detectives or science fiction. Others like historical books. Girls and women prefer love stories. Children like comics very much.
As for me, I prefer to read science fiction. It is very interesting and exciting for me as my hobby is computing. I read that some scientists think that without the computer the 21st century would be impossible. Computers are penetrating all spheres of human activity. In many of them they become indispensable. They calculate orbits, guide spaceships and planes, play chess, teach pupils, house wives to choose a menu. We often her that the increasing flood of information will be one of the problems of the 21st century. A computer may help to solve it too. It’s hard enumerate all the uses the computer may be put too. To my mind any books are our best friends. We must treat them with care and they will give us a lot of pleasure.

Friendship is something that everybody needs. Everyone needs to have a friend to stand with him.
So people often search for friends but mostly few.
Books are also important, they teach us many things and lead us to the right way.
Books nowadays are many but barely good because in a hill of books, you might find one or two good.
Friends are good. They help and live for each other.
A friend is a person who you can depend on, and a person who stands right by your side to lift you from a hole you fall in, by offering you a hand.
Books can be very good friends, they make you distinguish right from wrong and answer all questions in life.
Books are key to open the door of knowledge which enlighten our way through life.
But, to be friends, people must care for each other and respect their friends by offering help, but hardly we can see good friends.
Friends are like books, some are good, some are bad; Therefore, it’s hard to find books and friends everytime we need them.

There are a lot of libraries in our country, where we can choose any book we need. Everyone has the right to use public libraries. The librarian is always ready to help you to find a book on any subject, even if you do not know the title of the book you want. Those who know how to use the library catalogue can find the books without consulting the librarian.
Talks, exhibitions and other events take place in libraries. Book lists are prepared beforehand to awake a new interest among the visitors. Except reading special and scientific literature it is a great pleasure to read belles-lettres.

There is an English proverb that says, “Books and friends should be few but good”. And “Except a living man there is nothing more wonderful than a book!” I totally agree with it.
Any book is a wonderful thing! Just imagine – it may seem that it’s just paper pages with a cover and letters inside, sometimes with pictures. But the moment you start reading a book the whole new world opens to you! New characters, scenes, lives, events. It’s like real life in miniature. So, a book is truly one of the greatest inventions of man. We learn so many things by reading books. Books teach us to live. A book can be a faithful friend and a teacher. Reading a book you open new horizons for yourself. A book can form our values and our characters. It gives us an opportunity to imagine the future and to look into the past. One can learn a lot by reading books. And I am sure that the time spent on a good book is never wasted. And it’s really a pity that people started to read less. But it, of course, depends on the author greatly too and on his or her talent.
Books are of great help in any education. That’s why we have so many libraries in our country where we can choose any book we like or need. There are different kinds of books in any library – special literature, belles-lettres, science fiction, periodicals like magazines and newspapers and so much more. Everyone has the right to use public libraries. The librarian is always ready to help you to find a book on any subject.
But nowadays Internet libraries have become more popular and people use them more often. Now we can find and read on-line almost any book or literary piece in the Internet. And I find it very convenient. Because it saves time a lot. But I am sure that no matter how convenient it is to get a book on-line there is still no bigger pleasure than reading a printed book.
Different people like to read different kinds of it. It depends on one’s character and taste. Some people prefer fiction (novels, stories, short stories), some prefer detectives or science fiction. Others like historical books. Girls and women prefer love stories. Children like comics very much.
As for me, I’m personally fond of reading books. I like reading fiction.
I prefer reading science fiction. It is so interesting to read books by George Herbert Wells or Isaac Asimov. They speak about such things that have become real. How did they know? How could they know? That’s a mystery and it is what makes science fiction interesting and fascinating.

Books play a very important role in our life. Since the very childhood our parents and grandparents read fairytales for us, later on at school we study modern and classical literature. At that time we can understand what is our favorite genre of literature and what books we prefer. When we become adults we read detective stories or novels, psychological books and so on. As you can see books are with us during all our life.
We can learn many things and get a lot of useful information there. For example, if you want to learn information about yourself, psychological books will be very helpful for you. Here you can read how to grow up the children or how to manage with depression. This is what I am interesting in now. I know different writers, but of course I have already my favorite ones.
Classical literature is interesting and unique. First of all we can learn the way people used to live before, the hobby and norms. Also these books will teach us and our children some simple truths. There are good and bad things, friends and enemies, love and betrayal. Dostoevskii, Pushkin, Bulgakov, Turgenev will describe these truths very well to everybody.
My parents like to read detective stories and novels. They say these books help them to relax and see another reality. They can not be sure what is the end of the story and that’s why it’s so interesting to read. I think modern literature is not so interesting. Unfortunately today many people can write a book with no plot. I guess you need to have a gift to write an interesting book.
Books are never bore to me. I can read a book the whole day and I would feel happy and I will spend this time with use and pleasure. I believe books make us smart, communicative and friendly people.

Книги играют очень важную роль в нашей жизни. С самого детства наши родители, дедушки и бабушки читали нам сказки на ночь, потом в школе мы изучаем современную и классическую литературу. В этот период мы начинаем понизать, какой наш любимый литературный жанр и какие книги мы все-таки предпочитаем читать. Когда мы вырастаем, мы читаем детективные истории или романы, психологические книги и тому подобное. Как видите, книги сопровождают нас всю жизнь.
Мы можем изучить много интересных вещей и почерпнуть полезную информацию. Например, если вы хотите узнать какую-то информацию о себе, психологические книги тут будут крайне полезны. В них вы найдёте и как вырастить ребёнка, и как побороть депрессию. Это та литература, которой я интересуюсь сейчас. Я знаю, что есть разные писатели, но у меня уже появились любимчики.
Классическая литература довольно интересная и уникальная. Прежде всего, мы узнаем, как люди жили раньше, их хобби и нормы жизни. А ещё эти книги учат нас и научат наших детей простым истинам. Ведь в мире есть добро и зло, друзья и враги, любовь и предательство. Достоевский, Пушкин, Булгаков, Тургенев опишут эти истины самым простым языком каждому из нас.
Мои родители любят читать детективы и романы. Они говорят, что эти книги помогают расслабиться и увидеть другую реальность. Они не знают наверняка, чем закончится история, поэтому этот жанр им так интересен. А я не считаю современную литературу такой уж интересной. К сожалению, сегодня многие люди пишут книги без захватывающего сюжета. Я считаю, что у человека должен быть дар, чтобы написать интересную книгу.
Книги мне никогда не наскучат. Я могу читать целый день и буду чувствовать себя счастливой. А ещё проведу время с пользой и в своё удовольствие. Я верю, что книги делают нас умными, общительными и дружелюбными.

Long before the invention of printing people valued books as treasure troves of the human knowledge and experience. Hand — written manuscripts took months of writing and were collected by and kept in monasteries with utmost care. We can distinguish books between three classes of them.
Firstly, books on different branches of knowledge, works by brilliant minds of mankind. Secondly, textbooks, reference books and numerous dictionaries. And at last, books of all kinds and genres to read at leisure.
Classics should be taken a little at a time. One’s understanding of books by Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, Mopassan and Balzak depends on one’s age and experience.
As for me, good science fiction and fantasy develop imagination, logical thinking, broader one’s outlook.
The same could be said in favour of detective stories. They reveal such minute details of everyday life in this or that particular country that are of greatest interest for a curious reader. The masterpieces of this genre by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie and others, show the depths of psychological analysis, the insight into the human nature.
As an old saying goes, man cannot live on bread alone. Books are the source of knowledge and the means of self — perfection. Sometimes it is difficult to solve some problems in life. I think that books can help us. Books must be our friends during all our life.

Как говорится в старой пословице, не хлебом единым жив человек. Книги — источник знания и средство самосовершенствования. Иногда очень трудно решить некоторые жизненные проблемы. Я думаю, что книги помогают нам в этом. Книги должны быть нашими друзьями на протяжении всей жизни.

They help us to understand what is right and what is wrong.
There are books of all kinds: novels, historical novels, a science fiction, a biography, a classic, detective stories, fairy tails, adventure stories, humorous stories, a folktale. Books can be interesting, entertaining, exciting, powerful, witty. Some people read for insruction, other people read just for pleasure. Reading books also helps us in our education. We can find all kinds of books in the libraries. In some libraries we can also find books in many foreign languages. Reading rooms are open to all who wish to work there.
I think that serious books should be read thoughtfully and maybe more than once. To a thinking reader they may give new food for thought every time he rereads them.
As for me, I like to read adventure stories because it’s very interesting for me to follow the plot. I like that the characters of adventure stories are always eager to help each other in difficult situations. It’s amazing to get involved into imaginary world created by an author. While reading I live dozen of lives, have hundreds of adventures, visit thousands of fantastic places in different corners of our planet.
Sometimes it is rather difficult to solve some problems in our life. I think that books can help us and give the necessary advice. Undoubtedly, books must be our friends during all our life.

Книги рассказывают нам об окружающем мире и учат нас быть смелыми и честными, понимать других людей, помогать пожилым людям и малышам, любить свою родину, быть настоящим другом. Книги могут быть интересными, развлекательными, захватывающими, убедительными, остроумными. Некоторые люди читают для того, чтобы приобрести знания, другие читают просто для удовольствия. Чтение книг также помогает нам в нашем образовании. Мы можем найти все виды книг в библиотеках. В некоторых библиотеках мы также можем найти книги на иностранных языках. Читальные залы открыты для всех, кто хочет там работать.
