These Job Career Essays discusses how to choose your profession, job success, why people have to work at all and other.

Example 1, What Is A Good Job?

Life has many aspects and one of the most important sides of it is having a good job. But what is a good job? That’s a hard question to answer with one or two words because every person has his or her own perspective in answering this question. Some people see a good job as having a good income, others look at it as low working hours, while others just look to the job as they are meant to do it.

A job that is with high payment and brings happiness, passion to workers are the factors which are appreciated the most by most of the people.

The first factor that people think it needs to have to a good job is a high payment. Every person like to have a good job with a high payment that enables him or her to live a wealthy life. If you have a good income, you will have a high standard of living. For examples: you can buy a beautiful house, a luxury car or expensive furniture for your house and so on by the money you earn from your job.

You and your family can also go abroad on your vacation thanks to your high salary that people have a low paying job can’t do. Beside, a good income will help you to save for the future. You work to earn and save money for making you budget more bigger and richer which is of great advantage to you if you have a family of your own in the future and you don’t have to depend on the finance of your parents anymore. A good job with a high income brings the workers many benefits.

The second and most important factor that a good job need to have is bringing happiness and passion to the workers. Many people decide to choose a job with a good salary instead of a job that they really love. Working makes you sometimes feel tired, depressed and exhausted thus you will suffer from stress and pressure which surely has bad effects on the outcome of your work, on the happiness of your family or even on your healh. Therefore, Doing the job you love is very important, you always feel happy and convenient when you do it no matter how difficult and busy it is. Choosing a job base on a natural interest which is not only good for the individual but also good for the company and society. Because when a person is comfortable with his work, he will give his best trying to improve his work so the company will get much profit which helps society become more and more developed.

Example 2, One Life One Job?

People tend to differ when it comes to the opinion whether one should change job frequently. On the one hand, many people think one should keep doing the same job all throughout the life where as other advise that is not the way to go. The merits of both the arguments will be analysed before a conclusion is provided.

Firstly, there are immense benefits that professionals enjoy sticking to the same job. But the most obvious ones are security and enhanced expertise in a specific domain that they gain during their tenure in the workplace. For example, a civil engineer who is designing the architecture of a bridge for years knows all the nitty-gritty details of the factors for building a robust bridge. Because of his vast experience, his company will also be interested to retain him as the same level of competency cannot be expected from a newcomer. This supports the argument that continuing the same job over the years has several positive facets.

However, many other people argue in favor of changing jobs recurrently. The main reason being when individuals work in several jobs they usually add more skills to their portfolio and this definitely improves their employability. For instance, when a wildlife photographer changes his job and joins an advertising agency, not only his skills get enhanced, he is also considered as more dynamic and versatile. Additionally, spending too long in a job also make people feel monotonous. This makes clear why the idea of shifting jobs is suggested.

After looking at these two opposing points of view, it is felt that changing jobs every once in a while is of more benefit. However, it is recommended that one should judge the situation prior to making a decision.

Example 3, Reasons Why People Work

The Question

People in society work in many different settings, and for a variety of reasons. What do you think is the main reason why people have jobs?

  • to feel happier about their lives
  • to save money for the future
  • to develop new skills

The Example Essay

Only a very narrow-minded person would suggest that making money is the sole reason why people go to work each day. Personally, I believe that people find jobs to feel happier about their daily lives. I feel this way for two reasons, which I will explore in the following essay.

First of all, having a job gives our life a sense of purpose, which is good for our mental health. The objectives of our job are something to strive for each day and make it easy to establish both long and short term goals. Without a job, people often feel that their life lacks a sense of purpose. My own experience is a compelling example of this. In 2008, after ten years of working in a fast-paced corporate environment, I was laid off from my job. Even though I was financially secure and did not need to get another position right away I felt extremely depressed because I did not have an official job. Pursuing my hobbies was fun, but I lacked something to strive for each day. This is because at work I had always been given sales objectives and profit objectives to work towards and without those I felt depressed. Accomplishing professional goals always gave me a great sense of satisfaction.

Secondly, jobs give us opportunities to meet new people on a regular basis, which can provide us with a sense of happiness. People who are unemployed interact mostly with their family and old friends, which can sometimes be boring. When I was in high school, I worked in a local supermarket. Although the job did not give me a very high salary, I often look back on that experience with fondness; indeed, in many ways, it was the best job I have ever had. I was very happy to chat with the eclectic assortment of customers who came in each day. They all came from radically different backgrounds than me, and as a result, it was stimulating to learn about their lives. Even though I now work at a job that pays me a much higher wage, I do miss my low-paying supermarket job sometimes.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that one of the main reasons people work is to feel better about their lives. This is because a job gives us goals to strive for, and opportunities to make connections with interesting people.

Example 4, The Effects And Importance Of Work

Work has a common human practice since the beginning of civilizations. It is the secret behind social progress and the defining characteristic of man. Work as we see it, is a virtue and a necessity. In times of uncertainty, interdependence and market economy, the individual has to rely on his work to ensure his own well-being. Work provides the individual with the ability to be independent, to flourish, to develop, and most importantly, to find a meaning to life.

Definition of work

This paper is centered on Edward W. Younkins’ definition of work. “An individual’s work creates private property and a person owns himself and therefore has property in the free use of his time, abilities, and efforts. Work requires the expenditure of time and energy. Man is in control of his time and energy when he voluntarily and constructively works. Control of one’s time and energy both reflects the meaning of freedom and constitutes the means by which a person exercises his freedom.”

A little girl in one of the corners of the world who goes to the kindergarten and learns how to count, draw, sing or write, is working. An adult, who goes to his/her job every day from 8 to 4 o’clock and gets remunerated for that, is working. Work has different dimensions such as work for making a living and work for developing one’s talent and potential. Thus what the little girl does is one dimension of work, because instead of staying home to only eat and sleep, she is actually doing activities which are improving her as an individual. On the other hand, the man who has a job and devotes a lot of time and energy towards is a concretization of work for pay. Through his work, he is producing wealth which he can later use to pursue his goals. Thus, based on the age, circumstances, needs and desires of individuals, work takes different shapes. It is important for the individual to see work as a mean towards achieving one’s goals. Work provides individuals with the medium to realize most of their aspirations. Therefore, it is an important tool for forming the individual and the community as a whole, since we are all interconnected with each other. We produce and benefit from our work and that of another individual whose work might have an influence upon us. For instance a farmer who works his land does so by using a tractor which was produced in a fabric thanks to the work of other people.

Work as part of a meaningful life

Work is an essential tool through which individuals can achieve their goals, flourish and have a meaningful life. It is not at the root of a meaningful life but is an inseparable part of it. According to Younkins meaningful life is interconnected with reason, productive work, goal achievement, human flourishing and happiness. Since productiveness is one of the most important elements of a meaningful life an individual should work in order to be productive. Productive work, on the other hand, is the “process by which we can control our existence by acquiring knowledge and translating our ideas and values into physical form”. Thus, it is through work that we can actualize our abilities and desires, and give meaning to our existence. Work is important because it helps us shape our personal identity. It is also the building brick of the community. In order to lead a meaningful life, we have to be rational human-beings who choose work as an indisputable way of flourishing our lives. For instance, if we take into consideration the labor market and the people who get paid for their work, we can say that they can sustain themselves, their families and maybe have enough wealth left to spend on entertainment. These people give meaning to their existence and shape their life based on the work they do. Work organizes your life, gives you a reason to wake up in the morning and makes you understand the importance of other things in your life. It will be mentioned later that work is a central purpose in people’s life but not the only one. You can get tired and frustrated from your work, but at the moment when you gather around the Christmas tree you will have been able to afford a present for your children and can cherish upon a glass of wine with your wife. Work gives you the freedom to chose, freedom to have the things you need and desire.

Work as a path to individual independence

Independence means to actualize your existence by your own means. Work provides individuals with the necessary means to sustain themselves both economically and socially, provides the freedom to be part of a society. It is through work that we establish ourselves as a woman or a man. If you work, you produce wealth which only you have possession of and nobody else does.

People live through their choices. Everyone by natural law has the liberty to do whatever he or she wants as long as it does not interfere with the others’ liberty. For instance, Tom might chose to spend a quiet and peaceful summer at home or go on vacation. At the same time, Anna decides to do to a work and travel program and spend the same amount of time working. In the beginning of the next academic year, Tom has to ask his family to provide the money for everything whereas Anna can do so on his own. At this point, the Anna has developed as an independent individual who can pursue her goals through her own means. She actualizes her own existence by her own work. To work is to spend time and energy in producing something, instead of lying on the beach and enjoying the sun. According to Younkins “It is in work that we can find the foundations of profit, property and corporations – all can be justified in terms of the perfection of the human being”.

Therefore, through work we produce material values which we have possession of and can use it according to our aspirations. When you are a capable grown-up person and by free will you choose not to work, then somebody else will have to produce wealth for you. At this point it is not you who own the wealth but the person who gives it to you, who indirectly owns and controls your desires and needs as well. For instance, it is Anna’s choice whether she can buy an expensive concert ticket, but it depends on Tom’s parents to decide whether to give him money to do so. Eventually, work smoothes the path towards individual independency.

Work as a necessity for human survival and flourishing

Flourishing is a synthesis of personal development and change towards perfection. These two factors require effort and persistence. Therefore, work is a necessity towards human flourishing because it contributes to our self formation, development and to the creation of material values. Through work, we can be productive and create material values.

The material values you need to survive and flourish must be produced. If you are not producing these values, then you can only attempt to survive and flourish by passing this responsibility onto someone else.

When we work we produce material values which help us survive and flourish. We should be the ones working and creating the material values in order to flourish because if someone else does is not us flourishing but them.

It is true that the society we live in today has created the possibility of a division-of-labor which means that everyone is being productive in a different and specialized way. The individuals, who distort this balance of producing and enjoying the benefits, by profiting without working, do not flourish. If an individual does not contribute to the production process, he is like a parasite which just profits from others without doing anything. Moreover, what if the society does not provide us with what we need? What if we want to develop as special and unique people, should we still rely on the outside world and wait? Through different stages of the human society, human beings have discovered and developed numerous facilities which make our life easier than ever. If you need to travel somewhere far, your solution is only a click away. Buying a ticket, reserving a hotel room, setting an appointment are all easy things you can do as long as you can afford them. However, if you wish to become a pianist, there is no professor who can teach you play beautifully if you do not spend time practicing every day. They can teach you the theoretical background, but not the skills.

Work is an inseparable part of the human experience and people are what they do for a living. Your profession is part of your identity, whether you are a doctor, a journalist or a professor. All these terms are used to identify people of certain occupations, interests and lifestyle. When you are a baby, your parents are supposed to work and provide you with the necessary things. At the moment when you become capable of supporting yourself, you should do so by working.

Work as a virtue of rationality

According to Younkins, rationality is a primary virtue and it involves “full focus, commitment to reality, and the constant expansion of one’s knowledge.” Rationality is one of the most important attributes of human beings, which distinguishes us from other species. Therefore, by choosing to work as a way to pursue our goals, we are actualizing the principle of rationality. Professor White explains that rationality is a virtue based on two elements: free will and reason. While free will is the deliberate choice of the individual to persist with rationality, reason is the solution the humans have in order to overcome physical and natural limitations. Therefore, rationality is important only if it is concretized. Going back to the element of reason we should stress on the fact that most of the things we are using today are product of reason. For instance heaters, fridges, vacuum cleaners and hundreds of other examples are products of reason which improve and ease our existence. In this regard, work is the only viable tool to concretize rationality. For instance, a reasonable person would choose to work today and use the accumulated wealth to entertain oneself later. An unreasonable person might prefer to lie on the beach and enjoy the present. It sounds fun in the short-term, but it is impossible in the long one, since the resources at your disposal are limited and one day you will eventually have to work to generate some income in order to afford your expenditures. Moreover, the dynamics of the business world we live in accentuate the unquestionable need for work.

Other aspects of work

Up to now we have discussed work as a virtue and its importance. As a matter of fact, one should also take into consideration the way people approach work. Human beings differ in terms of many characteristics such as intelligence, talents, academic levels etc. Therefore, depending on human potential and the specific working environment, work can be equally beneficial to the human flourishing or demeaning. For instance, prostitution, gambling, and drug dealing constitute work as you get a kind of numeration for the service you provide and in a way you can pursue your goals. The money you get out of these kinds of work can help you afford your daily activities. Still, this money becomes useless at the moment when it neither contributes to the human flourishing, nor is the basis of a meaningful life. Work should be the key to human survival and flourishing, and not to the degradation of the individual and his moral values. If you sell your body to make money, you do not own it anymore. It becomes an asset for other people to use. Somebody who gambles plays with the risk of having nothing at the end, puts all his/her effort on luck rather than reason and work. When you base your human survival on drug dealing, you risk being caught up in a hierarchy of influences you cannot control, since the business is illegal. There is no basis for safety. Money and habits are the factors that decide on your life.

On the other hand, no matter how honest, working from dawn to sunset does not help much for your life flourishing either. Workaholics, the people whose only purpose in life is work, impinge themselves from other activities. Work should be a central purpose in your life but not the only one, because you risk missing the numerous opportunities of flourishing as a human being.

A central purpose should not be one’s only purpose in life. A central purpose brings order to one’s values, however it must be exercised in a way consistent with one’s other values. Productive work is not an end-in-itself, but a means to flourishing. If one pursues productive work to the exclusion of everything else in one’s life, so that it becomes one’s only purpose in life, this will undermine one’s flourishing.

If we further elaborate on the concept of work and all its elements we might say that even decent work, such as an accounting job in a consulting company might turn out not contributive to the human flourishing. If you happen to hate your job, don’t let it make your life miserable, but try improving your work environment or find more ways to make it more creative and interesting. The bottom line of work is to provide for the necessary means to the human flourishing and not to make it miserable. However, the fast pace business world we live in today is full of opportunities on one hand and on the other hand sometimes we don’t have much of a choice. Therefore, if you can not find another job from which you can get satisfaction you should try to give a purpose to your actual job and find satisfaction in what you are doing. At the end of the day if we don’t try to meliorate our life, no one will.

Example 5, Choice of a Career

The selection of a career or profession is one of the most important things of life. But it is equally difficult. The lack of guiding services, proper counseling and ever increasing unemployment has further complicated the matter.

There is cut-throat competition. Therefore, most of the young men and women in search of suitable jobs are a confused, indecisive and frustrated lot. It has generated a deep sense of frustration and indiscipline among young people.

A right choice of a career is fundamental importance. On it does depend one’s success or failure in life. A correct choice may lead to happy, prosperous and satisfying career and life. On the other hand, a wrong selection may result in failure, disappointment and sadness in life. The result of prolonged indecision rimy still proves worse.

Therefore, the problem should be faced and resolved as early as possible. It is better if one decides at the school stage itself what career one is going to adopt in the future. But the school-going students are quite young, inexperienced and raw to take a right decision. They cannot be the best judge in the matter. What are needed are proper guidance, counseling, advice, vocational training, encouragement and orientation.

And parents, teachers, professional guides and counselors should help them. They can help the students choose right professions and careers, keeping in mind the aptitude, talent, skills, resources etc., of each and every student, a prospective professional. This will also go a long way in solving the problem of unemployment and proper development of our human resources.

Life has become all the more complex and competitive. There is a keen struggle and competition in the world of careers and professions. And only the fittest will survive. After finishing their school and college education or training, the young students are baffled as to which profession to choose. They find themselves groping in the dark. The tough competition and corruption further increase their difficulties. A young man or woman may possess sufficient training, education, orientation and aptitude for a particular job or position and yet he or she may not get it because of various problems.

Gone are the days when life was easy, simple, smooth and harmonious, and in the majority of the cases the son followed his ancestral profession or trade and was trained in the same at home. With the rapid change in attitudes, situations and progress in science and technology, things have radically changed. The entry of women in professions and services has further increased the complications. And so, the selection of a right career at the right time has become a very tough job. It needs proper, full and comprehensive consideration.

There are professions, careers, trades and jobs in plenty. There are a number of professional and training institutions like It’s., polytechnics, engineering colleges etc., which give training in various trades, skills, professions and jobs, such as medicine, engineering, teaching, business, commerce, banking, computer science, advertising, journalism, government services, positions in armed forces, and scores others. Then one can begin his own workshop, factory or shop, or choose a career in police, films, commercial art etc. The whole world of careers is yours, but each and every profession requires a special aptitude, training, guidance, education and preparation.

One may wish to become a doctor or an engineer, but mere wish is not enough. Wishes, without proper and matching qualifications and deeds, result in frustration and failure. There are many factors that go in making a successful and happy career. Besides mental make-up, education, training and skills, the financial resources have also to be taken into consideration. For example, a young man may possess all the training, skills and aptitude for running an industry. But he cannot venture to be an entrepreneur unless he has sufficient financial backing and muscle. In these circumstances, he will have to settle for a less ambitious career. But if he has strong will power, nothing can prevent him from achieving the goal in the long run. One may start from scratch and end up as a business tycoon.

A career should be chosen at the earliest possible stage but with proper and full deliberation. The help and guidance of teachers, parents, experienced people and professionals should be sought in the matter. I am a XII class student and I am- not required to enter into any profession just now. And yet I have decided about my career and profession. I have thought long and well over the matter with the help and guidance of my parents, teachers, physical training instructor and others well qualified to advise me. I have decided to become a soldier in our army.

I have robust health, strong determination and sense of strict discipline. I like adventures, bold and daring acts. I have an aptitude for a military career. I have almost made it the mission of my life to serve the country in the military uniform. Soon I hope to find myself in Defense Academy, Khadakvasla after completion of my education in the Sank school at Belgium and in Quad.

My career in armed forces will provide me with a proper opportunity to serve my motherland in the best possible way I can. For me the profession of a soldier is the noblest because it is devoted to the defense of the country’s honor and unity. The call to the duty is super most in my mind and I personally feel that this feeling of mine can find best possible expression in defense service only.

Television in Our life

Television now plays an important role in our life. It is difficult to say if it is good or bad for us. It is clear, that television has advantages and disadvantages.

But are there more advantages than disadvantages? In the first place, television is an entertainment. But it is not only a convenient entertainment. For a family of three, four or five, for example, it is more convenient and less expensive to sit comfortably at home than to go out to find entertainment in other places. They don’t have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre or cinema. They turn on the TV-set and can watch interesting films, concerts, football matches.

But some people think that it’s bad to watch TV. Those who watch TV need do nothing. We are passive when we watch TV. Television shows us many interesting programmes. But again there is a disadvantage here: we watch TV every evening, and it begins to dominate our lives.

My friend told me that when his TV-set broke down, he and his family found that they had more time to do things and to talk to each other. There are other arguments for and against television.

Very often the programmes are bad. Sometimes they show too much violence in films and news programmes. There is also too much pop music and ads. Ads on the whole are convenient for grown-ups. But is it good for children to watch all those ads where they show all kinds of underwear and what not?

I think that television – is the most common media. People watch the news every day. We know what is happening in the world thanks to television.

Advertising is another invention of the 20th century. Some people find it annoying and useless, however, it certainly has its point. Advertising can be found everywhere nowadays: in newspapers, in magazines and brochures, on posters, on radio and TV, in Internet, simply everywhere. The main purpose of advertising is to sell the goods. From the other side, it’s a really effective way to let the people know about certain products. So it became obvious that businesses will profit from advertising, which is why we have so much of it. It’s an interrelated process: the more companies, the more advertisements. Advertising is not only the means of information, but also of communication. It’s the so-called interaction between clients and service organizations. First reaction to advertising in our country was relatively negative, although later it became a usual media content. TV ads were the most frustrating type of advertising. People were really annoyed when their favourite programs and soaps got constantly interrupted by useless ads. Besides, it seemed that they lasted forever. Later people got used to it and now it’s a normal thing to watch ads on TV. Moreover, there is a new type of annual award for the best commercial advertisement. One good thing about advertising is certainly the globalization. Today it’s easy to watch different commercials from all over the world and to understand what goods are produced in certain countries.

Advantages and disadvantages of TV.
TV has good and bad sides. First of all it keeps people informed, we can learn a lot of information watching TV. We can choose programs that appeal to us more, because TV provides programs for all interests. Sometimes we can relax, entertain ourselves when we are tired. Advertisement on TV gives us information about different products and it makes easier to choose things to buy. When we watch TV we learn about the world, famous people and global or recent news.
But TV has a lot of disadvantages. It takes a lot of time and it makes us lazy. And it’s very harmful for our health, especially eyes. Some violent programs and films make people violent. Violence becomes a vital problem. There is too much advertisement on TV. Sometimes it can encourage us to buy things we don’t need at all. Watching TV takes most of free time of almost all people. We just watch it, we do not concentrate, and, finally, we waste time.
In my opinion people need something like informational center. As for me I watch TV about one hour a day. I watch it when I want to learn news or relax and entertain myself. People need TV, but it can’t be the main thing in their life. It’s interesting, but not the main thing in our life.
I don’t really know what we must do to make TV better. I think we can do nothing. We just should not sit hour by hour watching TV. I think we must watch only the most important and interesting things. Because if we see everything we’ll become mad.

Television: For and Against

We live in the 21st century so it is difficult to imagine our life without television. About 50 years ago one family had no more than just one TV-set, and it was black and white. Often people had no TV-set at all. Nowadays many families have LCD television in almost every room. During the last years television has been developed: the quality of broadcasting has been improved, the number of news broadcast, films and series has increased. Nowadays television not only has an information function but also helps to relax or study.

People always argue about advantages and disadvantages of television. Some people believe that television is an important part of our life because due to that we get information about different events or things. Some people like doing household chores when the television is on. It improves their mood.
Other people are sure that television has a negative effect on our life. Sometimes some TV programmes present false information. Some of the advertisement videos exaggerate the quality of the goods making people to buy unnecessary things. Many films and TV programmes contain the great amount of scenes of violence which have a negative effect on people’s mental state.

Is the television useful or harmful? In my opinion, it depends on particular preferences and outlook on life. Every person has its own opinion. One should choose the information he or she is interested in and check it.

Television: For And Against

Every family today has TV at home, sometime even few TV-sets. We watch TV often, while cooking, eating, cleaning the house and so on. Our children got used to watch TV during meal.

Television takes a lot of time. There are many TV-programs for people of any age all 24 hours per day. And sometime it can become a problem.

Programs for children are not always safe and useful. There are scholastic movies and cartoons, but there are many of them aggressive. Parents must be careful , while keeping their kids alone with TV.

Another bad thing is that after watching TV too much we feel tired and our eyes are really stressed. We can lose vision very early. For children it’s hard to understand.

There is too many advertising on TV today. When you do shopping you want to find some popular and more expensive product.

A good thing is that there are many useful programs as well for children and adults. Documentary movies and programs, some shows, interview and so on.

I watch TV very rare. I prefer computer and my phone. I can find any program or important information there at any moment with no advertising. I prefer to spend my time smart. I have some favorite programs with my family. But I know some people who can’t live without TV. As soon as they come back home, they watch TV. They can even sleep with TV on. I think it’s a problem. This people have to understand, they waste their time and live.

Television in Modern Life (1)

A Scotsman, John Logie Baird, transmitted the first television picture on 25 October 1925.
The first person on television was a boy who worked in the office next to Baird’s workroom in London.
In 1927 Baird send pictures from London to Glasgow. In 1928 he sent pictures to New York and also produced the first colour TV pictures.
A first-rate colour TV set and a video cassette recorder have become an ordinary thing in the household today.
Modern television offers the viewers several programmes on different channels. Such as:
Soap opera: a programme often on two or three times a week, which follows the lives of a group/community of people. The stories are often exciting, dramatic and hard to believe.
Quiz show or Game show: individuals, teams or families who answer questions or play different games against each other. The winner gets a prize, e.g. a car, a holiday, money.
Chat show: a programme where a presenter talks to famous people about their lives and careers, sometimes there is music as well.
Documentary: a film with factual information, often analyzing a problem in society.
A series: a number of programmes about the same situation or the same characters in different situations. This may be a comedy series or a drama series.
Current affairs programme: a programme about today’s social/political problem.
In addition to regular newscasts you can see plays and films, operas and ballets, and watch all kinds of contests, quizzes, and sporting events. You can also get a lot of useful information on the educational channel. A good serial (perhaps, a detective story or a screen version of a classical novel) can keep the whole family in front of the telly for days, and don’t we spend hours and hours watching our favourite football or hockey team in an important international event?
Television most definitely plays a very important part in people’s lives. But is this a good thing or a bad one? Haven’t we become lazier because of television? Don’t we go out less often than we used to? Don’t we read less?
We tend to view more and listen less, as time goes on. Take, for example, meetings between famous people in various walks of life. We like seeing the people taking part in these discussions. Merely hear their voices is not quite the same thing.
We also like to watch television programmes dealing with animals and birds and all kinds of living things in their natural surroundings, as well as to watch sporting events in actual progress. Above all, we love seeing dramatic entertainments of all kinds; the plays of many leading dramatists; dramatised versions of the works of famous novelists; lovely one-act plays, comic turns, and amusing episodes of all sorts.
We can hear symphony concerts, operas and oratorios and popular melodies all transmitted with lifelike clarity. We have an opportunity of hearing well-informed talks on archeology, history, geography, science and technology. We hear critics talking about new books, films, plays, works of art. We hear living poets reading their own poems.

2. For what do we like to watch TV programmes about animals and birds, travels and travelling?
3. Why do we like to watch sporting events in actual progress?

6. What lectures and well-informed talks can be heard?

Is It Good To Be Famous?
As children a lot of people dream of being famous and popular. They watch their idols on TV and think this is the life they would like to have. Being famous normally means being wealthy and having a good income. It also includes being on TV, taking part in shows, interviews and various projects. It all seems so wonderful – people admire you, put your posters on the walls and ask you for signatures!
But is it really so great to be famous? Of course everything has its advantages and disadvantages. Just imagine being observed all the time, imaging you can’t hide from people even for a moment. Think about paparazzi — they watch every step you make just to take a picture of you –usually provocative ones. Moreover, famous people are frequently so stressed because they have to be in public very often they need to hide their true emotions and seem happy and pleased all the time. Furthermore, it’s usually very difficult for well-known people to make a family, because they need to travel a lot and can’t devote enough time to their partner or children. It also can be quite dangerous to be famous – there are so many mentally disordered people who can follow you or even harm you.
So, taking all these into consideration do you still want to become famous? Think twice!
