“Education
is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
-Nelson Mandela
Education
plays an immense role in transforming the lives of people. It just concerned
with academic learning and does not restrict itself to textbooks but extends
itself to include the application of values, knowledge and skills that have
been acquired by the individual over the years, Education can bring changes in
the world in two ways, through the empowerment of individuals and the
generation of knowledge. Byproducts of education, in the form of empowerment
and knowledge generation, are the most powerful weapons that can change the
world in different and effective ways.
Education
can bridge the socio-economic divide that is present in our society, as it
equips the people with necessary skills and abilities that would help them to
strive for themselves and to provide themselves with the basic necessities of
life. In addition to this, education can be used as a tool to eradicate
poverty. Education that targets marginalized and poor populations will bring
change to many of the systemic factors that have contributed to the delay in
poor communities development and can prevent the transmission of poverty between
generations, Acquiring basic skills such reading, writing and numeracy have a
documented positive effect on the income of the marginalized sections.
Furthermore, poverty can be eliminated by promoting equality of opportunity,
which is provided only when everyone is given a chance to get educated.
Education
can bring changes in the health profile of an individual, family, society,
nation and mankind all over the world. Researchers found that there is a 50%
chance of an educated mother to protect herself and her children from illnesses
if she is educated and it is more likely that her child could survive past age
five. Education works as a guide to awaken people and make them more aware of
the causes of various diseases. Education creates weapons like doctors who cure
these diseases. Moreover, a better education ensures that people are more aware
of the repercussions of various illnesses and diseases.
According
to the World Bank report on Civil War, it is estimated that the risk of war
reduced considerably with an increase in education. This is because education
inculcates the practice of independent thinking that leads to the creation of
new ideas. Independent thinkers do not blindly follow the beliefs of others and
draw their own conclusion on issues related to the world. Any problem being
faced by the world can be resolved practically and logically with the help of
these individuals. Equipped with impeccable communication skills, educated
individuals will not be hesitant to work with groups to solve a plethora of
problems. Therefore, education fosters peace.
Not
only this, education has made a huge difference to the lives of disabled
people. Education equips these students with increased levels of confidence and
problem solving abilities. By being a part of an educational institution,
children learn to understand the differences and similarities between people in
the real world. They learn to respect and appreciate diversity as they interact
with students of differing abilities and cultures. It helps them to forge new
friendships with people as they gain social skills. Education helps them to
develop a positive understanding of themselves and others.
India,
being a patriarchal society, is still plagued by a number of issues. The
practices of female feticide, female infanticide, child marriage, dowry and
child trafficking still exist. Female children are looked down upon due to the
inferior status that has been attached to them since centuries. One of the few
ways to eradicate these practices is by educating the masses and making them
more literate. They need to be made aware of the fact that when women are
provided an equal opportunity to live and get educated, they can succeed in
life as well and not become a “burden”.
Education
also has a positive impact on women empowerment as it equips the female
population with an increased level of confidence and rationality that helps
them to fulfill a number of economic, social and cultural functions which can
in turn bridge the gender gap, along with the socioeconomic hierarchy that
persists in society. Through education, women can respond effectively to
opportunities and challenge the traditional roles that have been assigned to
them. An educated woman can contribute towards the betterment of society by
challenging the mal traditions targeting women. By providing women an equal
opportunity to get educated, she will feel more motivated to bring about change
in society. An educated woman is a guiding light for her children, family
members and society as she knows how to live a happy family life and promote
healthy relations with others.
Food
insecurity, under-education and poverty form a vicious cycle in developing
countries. People with a minimum level of education can capture and elaborate
information better, as compared to their uneducated counterparts. Education
plays a key role in accessing public information, especially concerning health,
nutrition and hygiene. By acquiring education, individuals can follow a proper
and diversified diet along with good hygiene practices can help reduce
morbidity and mortality, Education is fundamental to promote agency, which
expresses the capacity of rural poor to escape from poverty and hunger, with
their own power. The people benefit from education due to increased levels of
rationality that enables them to judiciously use the resources they possess.
Education also leads to an increase in agricultural productivity and efficiency
and benefit economically from number of non-farm activities.
Education
also has a positive impact on improving the problem of water scarcity. There
are plenty of opportunities out there that people can use in order to learn
more about the world around them. By educating those who are not dealing with
water scarcity, they can be in a position to help. Those who are dealing with
it can get educated on how they can prevent the problem from becoming even
worse in the future. Water crisis is one of the major issues being faced by the
world today. It is crucial to make consumption and lifestyle changes which can
be achieved only when education related to the problem is provided. This will
motivate new behaviors on the part of individuals.
Education
also has a similar impact in the realm of climate change and environmental
degradation. It can deliver adequate scientific facts concerning these issues.
It equips the younger generations with skills that will help in combating
climate change while instilling the philosophy of sustainable development
Education has the power to show the youth of the world that they have wider responsibilities
and are entitled to make decisions regarding the environment in which they have
to live. The youth can realize their responsibilities only when they are
adequately educated about the consequences of climate change and environmental
degradation. Only educated individuals can suggest sensible and practical
mitigation measures and strategies. In addition to this, educated individuals
are more aware of the disasters and calamities that can occur at any given time
and are better prepared to face it as they are aware of the effective response
mechanisms that can be employed.
The
developing third world countries have been the chief benefactors of primary and
elementary education. Educating the masses guarantees the eradication of a
number of problems being faced by these nations. Many countries in Africa have
immensely benefited through education even when they have not achieved a
hundred percent literacy rate. Education leads to improved health, positive
economic growth, and political stability in these countries as it leads to
rational and logical thinking during decision making.
Education
is the most powerful weapon that can change the world and make it a better
place. Every nation will reach its zenith when education and equality of
opportunity is provided to all. It equips the youth with employable skills that
can help them in shaping their lives. In addition to this it formed the lives
of women and disabled people, all around the world, by empowering them and educating
them about their rights. Therefore, education is the tool that can make
everything possible and correct all the wrongs that plague the world.
Introduction
I am going to write about how education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world and what I think about it.
Education is a powerful weapon but only if you can use it for a good use. For example Mahatma Gandhi: he was very educated. He went to a university in London called University College London (UCL), he studied law. He used his education to save his country. He fought against the British but not with guns or bombs but with his education and that’s how he saved his country. Yes education is a powerful weapon that you can use for saving the world or a country or a human being.
But a few questions need to be asked:
1- What is education?
Education is knowing how to read, write and how to speak. Education is also knowing how to be polite. If you are educated then you can work and you can learn even more than you know.
2-Where does education came from?
Education comes from observing things around us and trying to understand them; the people who look after us when we are small like our parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters help us to do this. Education also comes from going to school but we can only go to school if our parents have the means to pay the school or if we live in a country where schools are provided for all. That’s why if you are educated then you can work and do many things.
3- Who gives it to us?
The teachers at school give it to us but we can only succeed if we try to work, if we want to learn if we know what that means.
4- Can everybody get education or is it only limited to some?
No, not everybody can get education because there are countries which are very poor so they do not have the means of having enough schools in their country. That means that the families which live in these countries can’t have access to education. Other countries like France have the means of building schools and employing teachers, so like this children can be educated. Obviously, even in France there are families which don’t have the means to send their children to school but because France is a rich country schools are provided for everyone.
If there are schools then you have a chance to go and get educated.
5- Can everybody possess this weapon which is education?
Yes, all normal born children can possess education because they have all been born into this world with intelligence and so if we look for education, if we ask people around us, read books, observe the world and keep our ears and eyes open to learn, then we will be able to possess this weapon.
Conclusion
I think that education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Always get educated, and use it for a good use. What is very unfortunate is that as the years go by, many are not using education for a good purpose but are using education for fighting in the world with material weapons and destroying our world.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This quote by Nelson Mandela exemplifies the importance of education in the world, and how with education, the world can be changed. However, this vital education is currently unevenly distributed even among the people in one country. Therefore, although there may be drawbacks, the government and more privileged members of society should strive to provide affordable education to all members of society. In the United States, the government is responsible for numerous roles which include ensuring the prosperity and positive growth of society and its people, provide infrastructure and stability, and provide general welfare. In relation to affordable education, providing affordable education to everyone can satisfy all of the responsibilities that the government has. By providing education, the intelligence of the general populace will increase, which will lead to economic and social growth in society because with more skills, people can perform higher level tasks. In the society, if one person does not have access to the affordable education, then it could be harmful towards that individual.

For example, while most others around the individual are advancing in society through affordable education, that one individual will fall further and further behind in education. Providing affordable education for all people has many advantages. As a whole, the people in society will advance together, not leaving individuals behind. Since it will be an affordable education, it will not be specialized for specific groups of people, but for everyone, therefore, conflicts revolving around lack of education would subside, creating a more peaceful society. Furthermore, as the general populace becomes more and more educated, crime rates would decrease as well because as general statistics show, people with higher education tend to not commit crimes.
With education for everyone, the work force would grow stronger and more diverse as people of many different backgrounds become more educated. This stronger work force would then provide the necessary skills to improve the society and general welfare of the nation. Although affordable education has many advantages, there are disadvantages as well. One big disadvantage is that conflict may arise over the source of money which would pay for the affordable education. With the current system in United States, taxpayers’ taxes would provide money for the program which could anger many taxpayers across the country.
Furthermore, the placement of money could cause hardships as people that do not have access to affordable education would not be able to advance in education like everyone else as mentioned earlier. On the other hand, people that do have access to affordable education would be providing for those that do not have access through paying taxes. Aside from problems that may arise due to financial reasons, there are other drawbacks. For example, the overall quality of education may decrease because the concentration of educational resources would be spread thin all across the United States. Also, if affordable education is provided for all people in the country, then immigration rates could increase drastically which could in turn stretch resources thin even more.
Furthermore, with more immigrants, number of students wanting education would raise the demand for competent educators to teach them, thus increasing the lack of resources. However, just because affordable education is provided for everyone, it is unlikely that all of the disadvantages would be present. Overall, there are many advantages as well as disadvantages. Although it may seem as if there are more disadvantages, the effect of the benefits would compensate for the drawbacks. The overall premise of providing affordable education is similar to the goals of Tiberius Gracchus’ land reform legislation in that social or general good outweighs the needs of an individual. Therefore, because of these reasons explained above, I believe the government is responsible for providing affordable education.

The Essay on Education As A Part Of Society
Education has always been a crucial part of society for the past centuries. Some believe that our education is a privilege. Some believe that our education is a right. Some believe that our education is an obligation. The only obligation we might have towards education is to treat it as a privilege as well as a right, but certainly not an obligation to have an education. Education has been the …

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”( Nelson Mandela). There are many definitions of education, for some people it`s the process of development, for others it`s a weapon. I think education is one of the ways people nurture their knowledge and skills. It also develops all sides of the human personality, revealing one’s abilities through the system of social institutions such as family, school and mass media. Moreover, I believe that education is an important element of socialization, it is also a lifetime experience that helps a person to grow and learn.
To my mind art and science belong to the heritage of the whole world and they can overcome difficulties, connected with different nationalities. So education unites people, helps them to communicate and understand each other better. For example, I remember I was asked to write an essay about differences between Russian and British cultures in my second year of BA in Penza State University and there was a teacher in my university, who inspired me to read such great English writers as Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy and John Galsworthy in order to understand British culture better. I enjoyed reading and after it I felt myself much closer to the solution of the mystery of the British national character.
For me, education has both intellectual and economic value. Education encourages imagination, intellectual curiosity and interest in knowledge. It helps encourage people to educate themselves and find out new information. So self-education plays an important part in individuals` lives and it is very important for the development of human’s talents. Only through self-education can a person be holistically developed . From my point of view, it also gives people the ability to improve their socioeconomic position by giving them the tools and skills necessary for getting well-paid jobs, so they can make a successful career in the future. Education also offers an opportunity to lead a better lifestyle.
My understanding of education has been confirmed and modified during Module 1 as from the first session the distinction was made between ‘education’ and ‘schooling’. I have learnt how systems of formal and informal education have developed in different cultural contexts over time. The second session was dedicated to the exploration of different perspectives on the nature and role of education. In particular, I have been reading two articles; Towards a Theory of Moral Education (Hand,2014) and Should we Promote Patriotism in Schools?(Hand, 2011), in which Hand explores what roles education might play in society. The first article supported the idea that teachers had to see themselves as moral educators of the children and had to infuse basic moral standards as well as provide critical discussion and good reasons for them. I found this notion interesting and useful in my future career as a teacher, because I would be responsible for moral education of my pupils.
The second article about patriotism claimed that we should not promote it in schools but rather to teach it as a controversial problem. The emphasis seemed to be upon the question of whether we are able to offer pupils solid grounds for loving their countries. I was interested to read it, because Hand discussed this issue from a completely different point of view. He argued that promotion of patriotism is a form of emotional education and emotional education can lead to psychological manipulation of pupils` answers. But I completely disagreed with this point of view. I think that patriotism is not only love of the country, it`s much broader concept. For me, patriotism is a moral position, which is expressed in love of a country, in pride of its achievements, in respect to its historical past and cultural traditions. At the same time, patriotism implies respect for other peoples and their cultures, excluding sense of superiority over them.

T: Well done. What can we do?
We can read and translate.
STEP 2.
DO YOU KNOW ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN PROVERBS?
T: Please, look at the screen. Read the proverbs and tell their Russian equivalents.
A man is known by the company he keeps.
A man can die but once.
First think, then speak.
He who makes no mistakes, makes nothing.
A bird may be known by its song.
Like father, like son.
Teacher: My dear friends, tell me, please, do you like poems? Do you know any poems? Take these sheets of paper. You will listen to Russian ones and find and read their English equivalents.
STEP 3.
CAN YOU FIND THE ENGLISH EQUIVALENTS
TO THESE RUSSIAN POEM?
Teacher: Dear boys and girls, you have sheets of paper with English(Russian) poems. One team will read the English poem, the other will give the Russian equivalent to it. Let’s do it.

Were walking out the Sunday,
Says Tommy Snooks to Bessy Brooks
Tomorrow will be Monday
Brave news is come to town,
Brave news is carried,
Brave news is come to town! –
Jemmy Dawson’s married.
First he got a porridge pot,
Then he bought a ladle,
Then he got a wife and child,
And then he bought a cradle.
Mirror, mirror, tell me
Am I pretty or plain?
Or am I downright ugly
And ugly to remain?
Shall I marry a gentleman?
Shall I marry a clown?
Or shall I marry old Knives-and-Scissors
Shouting through the town?
Стережет в горах овец;
1 Sleep , baby , sleep ,
Thy father guards the sheep$
Thy mother shakes the dreamland tree
And from it, fall sweet, dreams for thee,
Sleep, baby, sleep.
6 Social mechanism
When people always try to take
The very smallest piece of cake
How cant it also always be
That that’s the one that’s left for me.
8Enough is enough
The powerful and wise must steer
Our destinies from year to year
To keep things going hour by hour
Is all that is within my power.

7If you know what I mean
A poet should be of the
Old-fashioned meaningless brand:
Obscure, esoteric, symbolic, –
The critics demand it;
So if there’s a poem of mine
That you do understand
I’ll gladly explain what it means
Till you don’t understand it.
Listen, understand, find the English equivalent and read it.

WELCOME TO THE UK AND THE USA
T: And now I’ll read you some information about British and American traditions. Please listen attentively and then you will do some tasks.
How much did you understand?
Welcome to the UK and the USA
If you can speak English, you know a lot of English words. You can read, speak and understand. But there is another kind or language you need to know – the language of the body.
All over the world, people “talk” with their hands, heads and eyes. When Japanese people meet, they bow, when Indians meet, they put their hands together. What do American and British people do?
When British and American people meet someone for the first time, they shake hands. They do not usually shake hands with people they know well. Women sometimes kiss their women friends and men kiss women friends. When a man meets a man friend, he just smiles and says “hello”. Men do not kiss each other or hold hands.
In Britain and the USA people are careful about time. If they want to see a friend they telephone first. If you are late just say sorry and explain what happened. But if you don’t arrive, the other person will be upset. Call them to explain.
British and American families like to invite friends. Ask your host what time you should arrive. It’s polite to bring flowers or a bottle of wine. Say how much you like the room, pictures or your hostess’s dress. But remember – it’s not polite to ask how much things cost.
After the evening call your hostess the next day, or write her a short “thank you” letter. Perhaps it seems funny to you, but British and American people cay “thank you, thank you, thank you” all the time.
T: Well done. What can we do?
We can understand English

British primary school. School subjects”
British schools. School subjects
I know that many children don`t like going to school and doing homework. But today we are going to the UK to get acquainted with British subjects and school system.
So, be very attentive.
British system of education is different from ours. Children usually go to school from 5 to 16 years old. This period is called ‘compulsory education’. Usually at the age of 5 (sometimes 4) children go to primary school.
And now we`ll have a closer look at a British Primary school.
Maybe you`ve already noticed that there`s often a separate school building only for primary school children in Britain.
There are from 25 to 27 students in a primary class.
Look at the timetable for year 1 of studies:
First, children start to study literacy and numeracy. They also have Physical education lessons (PE) and Music. .. Look at the name of this subject (callout to PSHE). – PSHE means Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Education. We don’t have such a subject at our schools. We can find something similar to основы безопасной жизнедеятельности (ОБЖ) but they are not identical.
British students also have got ICT (information computer technology) since their first grade!
Then they start learning History, Geography, Art and Science. They also get acquainted with Modern Foreign Languages (usually it’s French).
Французский is French, счет in English is numeracy, чтение и письмо is literacy, информатика will be …ICT (information computer technology), история is History, ИЗО (изобразительное искусство) is art, чтение is reading, предмет, у которого есть общие черты с ОБЖ … oh, yes, it`s PSHE personal, social, health and emotional education; физкультура is PE – physical education; география is geography and основы естественных наук (то есть понемногу из физики, химии и биологии) – is Science.
It`s interesting to know about: capitalization in school subjects. Capitalization means
When my parents were primary school students, about twenty- twenty-five years ago, Russian-speaking students used to capitalize all the names of all the school subjects. But look at my parents now: they`ve changed a lot since then, so has the English language. Nowadays we capitalize the names of school subjects only if it`s the name of a particular course or the names of languages. Look: I love geography. we don’t capitalize geography, but both teachers and students like Geography Starter by Din Johnson. Here we capitalize Geography Starter because it`s a course.
… At the age of 10 or 11 years old (after year 5 of studies in primary school) British students take SATs.
SATs are National Curriculum Tests in English and Mathematics.
And now the students are ready to move on to secondary schoolJ
EDUCATION IS THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON WHICH YOU CAN USE TO CHANGE THE WORLD. (Nelson Mandela). O

I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But, if need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.
